In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit.  Amen.

We thank You, our dear Heavenly Father, for the privilege of coming before You on this Lord's Day among the wonders of nature and in thanks for the unselfish service of the Veterans of the Armed Forces of this the greatest country in the world; The United States of America.

As we ponder the selfless acts of duty and honor performed by the men and women, who served us by answering the call of the nation, we ask that You, O Father eternal, would help us faithfully use our individual talents and skills to Your glory, to help mankind in our quest for freedom, and to continually work to improve our own community.

Lord Jesus, by Your time in the tomb in the garden, You hallowed the graves of all believers.  May our beloved dead, so many of whom gave their lives in the cause of freedom, rest in the sunshine of Your Resurrection.

Remind  us O Lord, especially as our warriors come home from the conflict of our current war against terror, that we who enjoy the freedom they are fighting to protect, that we need to increase our attention to them.  As they become the Veterans for whom we built this memorial, we must never neglect nor diminish their importance to us.  Make us vigilant to this memorial that it may be a beacon of honor, proclaiming to our former soldiers, proclaiming to the wounded and the whole, that we, the citizens of
Santa Clara acknowledge before God and country the incredible sacrifice our warriors made to keep us a free nation, dedicated to liberty, one nation under God, indivisible.

Our infinite God, we know that building a place with brick and stone is never enough.  We therefore ask that You would open our eyes to the needs of our Veterans.  Give us the necessary wisdom, willingness and ability to take the necessary steps to meet those needs, as a nation, as a city, and as individuals.  Ensure that all our work is done in humility, and with a determination to do only those things that abound to Your glory and honor.

Dear Lord, put an end to war and violence everywhere.  Persuade our enemies to enter with us into the hope of freedom, the wonder of liberty and a day of peace at last.

This we pray in the Name of Jesus Christ our Savior.
   Amen.
